Dropbox Gmail Integration for attachment and sending large files – What is the Gmail Dropbox integration, and how do I use it? We are going to explain all these in this post.
First, you should know that the Dropbox Gmail integration helps you share files saved in your Dropbox directly from your Gmail account. The integration is free and available through the Google Chrome web-store.
If you’re using the integration, a Dropbox icon will appear at the bottom of the Gmail compose window. Clicking this icon will show a pop-up window where you can select from the contents of your Dropbox. Simply select the file or folder you’d like to share, and a shared link will appear in the body of the email. (You can also select multiple files or folders.) While this will look like an attachment, it’s in fact a shared link, meaning no slow-down in sending emails, and no space limitations in your inbox.

How do I enable the Dropbox Gmail integration?
You can enable the Gmail integration, and follow the prompts to get started. If needed, see Google’s instructions for enabling Chrome extensions for more info.
Once I’ve enabled the Dropbox Gmail integration, how do I use it to share links to my files?
- From your Gmail account, click the “Compose” button
- Click the Dropbox icon at the bottom of the Compose window
- Dropbox Gmail button
- Select the file you’d like to share from your Dropbox in the pop-up window, and then click “Insert link”
- Dropbox Gmail insert link
- You will then see an attachment link in the body of your email
Note: Though the file will appear as an attachment, it is in fact a shared link. This saves space in your inbox, and ensures others will always see the latest version of the file.
How do I disable the Dropbox Gmail integration?
- Click the icon with three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser
- Hover your pointer over More tools, and then select Extensions
- Find the Gmail Dropbox integration, and click the trashcan icon beside it
- Click Remove in the pop-up window that appears
What if I see a “third-party cookies” error when I try to sign in to the Gmail Dropbox integration?
If you try to sign in to the Gmail Dropbox integration from the screen below, but instead encounter a “third-party cookies” error message, it is likely because third-party cookies have been blocked on your browser.
Sign in and Integrate Cookies
To run the Gmail integration, Dropbox needs to be able to add cookies. To create an exception to allow Dropbox to add cookies:
In the address bar of your Chrome browser, enter “chrome://settings/content”
- In the Cookies section, click Manage exceptions…
- Chrome settings
- Enter “[*.]dropbox.com” and click Done
- Manage exceptions
- Refresh Gmail and try signing in again
What if the Gmail Dropbox integration stops working, won’t enable, or won’t load my files?
If the Gmail integration stops working, try closing and reopening the compose window, refreshing Gmail in Chrome, and finally closing and reopening Chrome itself.
If none of these quick fixes work, see Google’s help center for more in-depth troubleshooting measures and for instructions on uninstalling extensions.
Does the Dropbox Gmail integration have any limitations with file type or file size?
While there is technically no file size limit, Dropbox does have some bandwidth limitations which are based on your account type. Learn more about Dropbox bandwidth limitations, and how going over these limitations can lead to banned links.
Since the Gmail integration creates a shared link rather than attaching the file itself, there are no file-type limitations.
Is the Dropbox Gmail integration available on browsers other than Google Chrome? Is it available on all devices?
Currently the Gmail Dropbox integration is only available through the Google Chrome store. It will work on any computer that has Google Chrome.
